Dame About Towne 2022

My "Four Seasons of Outside" agenda was to see as many shows as I could and for them to be bands or artists I have not seen before.

It didn't work out that way. I had repeaters, Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Black Crowes & every act at my Legends of Hip Hop Show, minus Chubb Rock.

The "repeat rule" does not apply to The Rolling Stones, The Black Crowes, Drake, Jay Z, Lil' Wayne, Madonna, Citizen Cope, or Metallica.

Catch me outside, EVERY TIME!

Since we all know that our memory fades, I'm chronicling my 2022 concerts.

What sucks, even more, is that greedy-ass Ticketmaster no longer issues ticket stubs.

That stings for a scrapbook junkie like myself, plus I recently bought the cutest ticket stub book.

I'll buy a few more for the stubs that I have. The first book is filled. I will make faux stubs for shows that I don't have stubs for...well probably just insert the confirmation notices.

The first show that did not give me an option for a hard copy stub was Beyonce & Jay-Z, OTR II. That would have been framed.

Throwback Tix 2018

I guess I will print the confirmation and frame it.

OTR ll, ticket cost? $73.80.

My motto is: "it is better to be in the house than at home".

The November 16th event was Drake & Migos.

R.I.P. Takeoff.

By now you, know I easily go left from the topic at hand.

OKAY, I like every damn song. LOL!

Painkiller is a difficult song to sing. Not many could ever do it.

Rob had a 6-octave vocal range. He's THEE Heavy Metal God for good reason.

He's in remission from cancer, a true survivor.

Out & Proud!

He can't hit the notes in Painkiller like in the past.

The show was great and he hit them in every other song.

One life, I'm gonna live it up
I'm takin' flight, I said, I'll never get enough
Stand tall, I'm young and kinda proud
I'm on the top as long as the music's loud...

Rock Star Entrance

Who can hit these notes?
NOBODY!

The base line is CRAAAZZZY!!

Rob came out on the bike at my show.

Yay! I got to see all the grandeur.

These two books are on my birthday wishlist.

It's gotta happen since Springsteen tickets won't.

I'm giving Vince some grace. It was the first show of the tour. The kinks needed to be ironed out.

Tommy was not able to play more than three songs. It was 90 degrees out. Vince struggled a bit. His voice has not been there for a while but it was not bad.

I don't care. Vince put the fur coat on in 90-degree Atlanta heat.

I love the fur coat/long coat ROCK STAR costume change and Vince is a fucking ROCK STAR!!!

Mick Jagger usually gives me the long fur coat Rock Star costume change during Sympathy For the Devil.

I love the Crüe! It's time for their induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame!

This tour ended up being a disaster. A few weeks later Bret Michael's had to leave the tour and then Mick Mars retired.

Something else bad happened during this tour that I've forgotten...so maybe I lucked out getting the full experience with all the bumps that came later.

He's so cute.

The ICONIC Mick Mars retired 4 months after my show.

So happy I got to see him!

rakim 11.jpg

This was a GREAT show with the true legends of Hip Hop.

As you can see I was ready for RAKIM.

Bad news: He wasn't there. He got COVID and of course, he canceled.

Me and my perfectly shredded
t-shirt were disappointed.

Rakim and I were friends when I was a teenager. I didn't know him as Rakim, his nickname was Pop. Anyone that really knows him from back-in-the day calls him that still.

He lived a two towns over. Across the tracks, the so-called "bad" part of Long Island. It really wasn't that bad but I did live in a better area.

My High School was 90% white, his was 99% black. Cool vibes! I enjoyed my school too.

A future post will be about my school days. I've attended three of my High School reunions.

Long Island it's the burbs, it really didn't have bad parts, just parts with lower income and that can lead to struggling people doing "a little something, something to survive. That is global.

Things have changed now it's more diverse and there are some places that were nice that have gone downhill.

The guys were cuter where Rakim lived, and the parties were better, so that is where you'd find me.

He was DJ'ing more in the park back then. He had a little hot dog cart too. He had a plan and the skills to execute his dreams.

His parents were intellectuals, it's obvious by his knowledge, religion, and wordplay. His dad was a Jazz musician. He wasn't into the "bad" things in the streets.

My girls and I would cut class and go to his school and hang out during their lunch break. Our "boyfriends" went to his school.

We were the good girls from across the tracks. :-)

He was a gentleman. I always felt like I was so much older than him. I really wasn't.  He hung out with the older guys. Music was his passion.

He asked me why I like these "hood" guys. LOL!

We'd catch a cab, hitch a ride, do whatever it took to get to Wyandanch, and hang out on Straight Path, across from the Discount Store. We only resorted to this when one of our cars was out of commission.

I liked the bad boys with an edge. The guys from my town were more "Urkel" types. They did not excite us. LOL!

When I came home for a break from the military that is when I found out "Pop" blew up and did he ever. Anyone that knows Hip Hop has him number one or at least top three of all-time

He's my G.O.A.T and that is not because I knew him.

The concert footage below is from the last time I saw Rakim in Atlanta.

One day I will run into him and we will have a laugh about the "crazy" Greenlawn Girls.

I love fact-checkers. If you've found this vlog and you know Rakim show him the picture below.

That's me and a guy I dated back in the day. TRUST!! Rakim knows him very well. They grew up together, in the same hood.

That is whom I was visiting when I cut school and went to Rakim's High School. That's my best friend Barbara (Bebop) at the bottom.

I have more pictures to post (from Wyandanch) in a separate blog entry.

He will tell you everything I am saying is true.

Where do they rank KRS-ONE?

I could have never imagined 37 years after KRS-ONE's first song, my son would be in his newest video.

A post devoted to my knowledge of hip-hop, especially the Golden Era is in the works. I'll rank my favorites.

I lived it and boy do I have stories and "groupie tales".

Who are your favorite RAPPERS?

Where Do they rank Big Daddy Kane?

story time 11.jpg

My son (BAMtheDancer) was born in Frankfurt, Germany.

When I was pregnant I would put my walkman headphones on my belly and play Big Daddy Kane.

I had a boombox in my thin-walled German apartment and played rap music loudly.

My apartment was on the 6th floor?, with no elevator, and over 100 steep stairs up.

My landlady was a little old German lady, Mrs. Mueller.

She walked up all of those steps one day to ask me how my baby could sleep with the loud music.

I told her just fine, he's sleeping now. She was sweet but nosey. I was the first black person to live in her building.

She loved an excuse to visit me, she was in her 80s. Her son who looked very Lurch-like lived there also, he was in his 50s.

The only thing I hated about my place was that they controlled the heat.

It was turned up in the morning and turned down very low during the day because everyone would be at work.

They'd turn it up again at night before bedtime. My bedtime wasn't their bedtime.

I understand this is common even in apartments in New York.

I stayed in that apartment for 9 months. I could not deal with the heat situation and the possibility of my baby getting sick.

To make it worse BAM was a colic baby and cried non-stop. The neighbors were not pleased and would yell and bang on the wall.

Mrs. Mueller was always so perplexed because when BAM was first born he was much lighter than me.

Germans on the train would ask me if he was my baby. Germans love to stare in general.

I liked living with the locals. I requested Military housing off-base after.

It was assigned a beautiful place. The first one they gave me had 9 bedrooms. YES! NINE. It was too much and the layout was weird.

It was on the top floor, so it spanned the length of the building. I found it scary.

I request a 3-bedroom and moved one floor down.

BAM being a hip-hop dancer was predetermined. I met his dad on the way to a Salt & Pepa / Big Daddy Kane concert at Fort Hood, Texas.

On the way to the concert in Austin, my friend and I saw two guys broken down on the side of the road.

He wanted to stop, but I did not. He said they have to be going to the show.

I said we can help only if they agreed to go to the show and deal with their car later.

I was not going to miss the concert.

Obviously, you know what happened next. :-)

I only gained 19 pounds carrying  BAM.

I left it all behind in the hospital.

chubb.jpg

The very first song BAM ever sang was Chubb Rock's, Ya Bad Chubbs.

He was in his car seat in the back of the car. I was playing my Chubb Rock cassette in my VW Rabbit, riding down the autobahn.

I heard Ahhhhhhh, Ahhhhhh..... coming from the back seat. He wasn't a year old.

Made me proud!

I met Chubb Rock at the airport. I stopped him and told him that story. He thought it was hilarious. He appreciated it.

I've seen Big Daddy Kane at the airport too. I went right over to him and swooned. He told me he was heading home to I think South Carolina.

A young white kid timidly asked me, "is that Big Daddy Kane?". I said yes, go say hi....he's cool. The kid approached Kane. :-)

I look for celebs at the airport and anywhere. I can spot someone a mile away.

New York & Atlanta airports are good to me...Mrs. Kravitz!!

I hate to admit that this was not a show that I 100% enjoyed. It was kinda messy. A little too "chaotic jammy".

Chris Robinson was perfect as usual. He did look very tired.

You will always find me wherever he is. He sang two songs and joined in on another.

It was a benefit show and they did two shows in one night. Mine was the second show at a different venue.

I could tell they were all exhausted. It was also taped and live-streamed. The proceeds went to Planned Parenthood.

I do not regret going. The ticket was not expensive, the venue is 6 miles from my house. Totally worth it to see Chris!

Chris is from the Atlanta burbs and most of the acts were in bands that formed in Georgia colleges.

A lot of bands came from the Athens/Atlanta, Georgia scene.

Most notable R.E.M., B-52's, and The Black Crowes.

chris rob 1.jpg

Darius was underwhelming.
I'm chalking it up to exhaustion. He's not top of my list regardless.

Puddles_byEmily-Butler.jpg

Michael was so good. By far one of the best of the night. His voice is superb.

arrest dev david.gif

David was a funny host, one of the highlights. Arrested Development is in my top three favorite comedies EVER!

Tobias Funke is a hilarious character. If you don't love Arrested Development we need to talk. LOL!

He is an Atlanta native and talked that real shit...so funny it was about the county I live in.

Where I live has a reputation for being "conservative".
Some of his jokes didn't go over well.

He told no lies! The cops ain't shit and neither are the racists!

There were definitely a few angry Orange Kool-Aid drinkers in the house.

A couple of BOOOs from the typical old-ass UGA grads didn't do anything other than make me roll my eyes.

I would not expect anything less from UGA graduates and people from the outskirts of Atlanta.

Fuck them, they knew what they were in for. The majority of us at the event don't drink that shit!

The world does not revolve around a loser living in a dilapidated club.

Sorry about the rant but this was part of the events of the night. David Cross did not deserve the disrespect.

Keep On Rockin' & Rappin' In the FREE World!
